The Reason

One night, I was sitting at the computer desk falling in love slowly with T.S. Eliot and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. One stanza in particular gave me the name for my blog:

And indeed there will be time
For the yellow smoke that slides along the street,
Rubbing its back upon the window-panes;
There will be time, there will be time
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;
There will be time to murder and create,
And time for all the works and days of hands
That lift and drop a question on your plate;
Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions,
And for a hundred visions and revisions,
Before the taking of a toast and tea.

This poem is all the thought process of J. Alfred Prufrock, who is walking across town to a tea party to propose to the woman he loves. On the way to her house, as he is watching all of the passerbys, he begins to doubt his worthiness. Prufrock does not believe he will be accepted as he is. Old age is creeping upon him and time is running away. Will he sacrifice the life he has now and rededicate himself to a mundane lifestyle? In the end, he does not go to this tea party for he is not worthy; he is too old, too thin, too bald. He has seen death and knows now that there is not time enough for everything. However, he also knows that if he waits too long for love, he will be lonely.

There is time to love and to lose. There is time for a decision and a question. There is time to learn and to teach. There is time to realize we don't have much time left. This concept of time has been used so much it is often dubbed a cliche in English literature. Why call an honest truth a cliche? It doesn't matter how often the message has been passed across our eyes, it only matters that we listen to what we read. (I know that doesn't make much sense, but you know what I mean)

Time is the only thing we can fully manipulate and take advantage of. Don't waste a minute doing something you don't want to or being a person you don't want to be.

Newbie..

To help me with my creative urges, I have decided to create this blog in hopes of being able to express myself through my words. By doing this, my sanity will be spared as well. As you can tell by my info, I am an English and Secondary Education Major. My heart belongs to literature, history, and art. In here, I will be quoting some of my favorite works and sharing pictures of the art that inspires me. Also, since I'm a soon-to-be-educator, I will be analyzing literature. I hope you enjoy all that is to come.
